THE BACKPACK PROJECT

At Karina’s Backpack Project, we believe that every child deserves to start the school year feeling confident, capable, and cared for. A backpack may seem small—but it holds the power to prepare a student not just for the classroom, but for the future.

For many families, the back-to-school season is filled with anxiety. School supplies are costly, and for those facing financial hardship, they are often out of reach. That means students show up on day one feeling different, unprepared, and left behind—not because of their potential, but because of a lack of access.

We’re here to change that.

Each year, we provide thousands of elementary and middle school students with backpacks filled with the essentials—notebooks, folders, pencils, crayons, and more. But what we deliver goes far beyond supplies.

We deliver confidence.
We restore dignity.
We remove barriers.
We ignite motivation.

When a student receives a backpack, it sends a powerful message: someone believes in them. That message ripples through their sense of self, their excitement to learn, and their belief in what’s possible.

We’ve heard from countless parents, teachers, and students who tell us that receiving a backpack changed the way a child walked into a classroom. Not with hesitation, but with pride. Not with fear, but with excitement.

Every backpack we give is a promise that no child should be held back because of what they don’t have.
Every backpack is a step toward a brighter, bolder, more equitable future.

This is the heart of our mission—and it’s only just the beginning.

Our
Impact

80,000+ BACKPACKS AND COUNTING

Since launching, Karina’s Backpack Project has distributed over 80,000 backpacks to students across Southern California and beyond—each one filled with care, purpose, and the tools to succeed.

FOCUSED ON REACHING THOSE WHO NEED IT MOST

We work directly with schools, community organizations, and trusted partners to identify students with the greatest need. This ensures that every backpack goes directly into the hands of a child who might otherwise start the year without basic essentials.

MORE THAN A LOCAL EFFORT

In a powerful milestone, we brought the Backpack Project to Gujarat, India, honoring the roots of Karina’s family. This international giveaway served students in the very communities her family once called home—a full-circle moment that connected past and present through service.

Packed with purpose

Our backpacks aren’t one-size-fits-all. Each one is age-appropriate and thoughtfully packed with school supplies that match grade-level needs—because every detail matters when it comes to making a student feel prepared and confident.

Meaningful moments, lasting change

Each event is about more than distribution—it’s about dignity, celebration, and community. We’ve transformed campuses and neighborhoods into spaces where families gather, children light up with joy, and a simple backpack becomes the start of something bigger.

  • We collaborate with schools, community organizations, and companies who share our vision of equitable education and opportunity for all students. Whether you’d like to sponsor an event, host a drive, or explore other ways to collaborate, we’d love to connect.
